The Twelve Steps, Traditions, and Concepts of Sexaholics Anonymous are adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and provide each member with a framework for service.
Early in SA's history, it was established that minimal organization would be necessary for functioning. SA adopted AA's principle that service members and those in positions of responsibility serve as "trusted servants without any governing authority." An inverted pyramid of accountability forms the service foundation. When issues arise, "final authority always rests in the collective group conscience of the fellowship." Group conscience represents the will of those present at fellowship meetings. When uncertainty exists, the international group conscience prevails.
Those committed to service "find true sobriety." Active members report numerous rewards: hope, faith, courage, peace of mind, self-respect, self-confidence, others' respect, clear conscience, genuine friendships, clean living patterns, family love and understanding, and life freedom.
Service commitment helps newcomers establish lifestyle changes focused on stopping lust. Service removes obsessive thinking by redirecting focus outward.
Staying sober, joining a home group, attending meetings, working Steps, arranging literature, obtaining phone numbers, getting a sponsor, helping with anniversary meetings, greeting unfamiliar attendees, arriving early for fellowship, and attending conventions.
Chairing meetings, supporting low-attendance groups, attending business meetings, serving as secretary or literature supplier, participating in institutional service, and continuing early-day activities.
Becoming treasurer, chairing annual functions, sponsoring others, attending intergroup meetings, volunteering for the hotline, leading meetings at conferences, becoming an intergroup representative, contacting professionals, studying Traditions and Concepts, writing articles, chairing committees, long-distance sponsoring, and institutional hosting.
